As a yearly practice, the Flemish and Brussels regions have published their new minimum gross salary thresholds for 2021 for work and single permits. For Wallonia official confirmation and publication is pending.
Depending on the region and the type of permit/employee, different thresholds apply.
For the most commonly used types of permits, the gross salary thresholds are listed in the table below (all amounts in EUR).
Type of permit/employee | Flanders 2020 | Flanders 2021 | Brussels 2020 | Brussels 2021 | Wallonia 2020 | Wallonia 2021 |
Highly skilled | 42.696 (34.156,80 for local employee < 30 or nurse) | 43.524 (34.819,20 for local employee < 30 or nurse) | 42.869 | 43.395 | 42.869 | 43.395 (to be confirmed) |
Executive | 68.314 | 69.638 | 71.521 | 72.399 | 71.521 | 72.399 (to be confirmed) |
Blue Card | 51.235 | 52.229 | 55.431 | 56.111 | 55.431 | 56.112 |
In last year’s blog post, we explained which salary components should be taken into account for the calculation of the gross salary as mentioned above.
We would like to emphasize that compliance with these wage thresholds is crucial to guarantee continuation of or new employment in Belgium.
